Marjorie Rah, OD, PhD
Assistant Professor of
Optometry, New England College of Optometry
Dr. Rah hails from Tuscarawas, Ohio. She attended the Indian Valley North High
School, before emerging from Ohio State University with an array of degrees,
including a Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, Doctorate of Optometry and
Ph.D. This educational background provided Dr. Rah with the academic
experience to become a highly qualified doctor of optometry.
Dr. Rah explained the experience that prompted her to choose optometry as a
profession, “while I was still at school, I needed eyeglasses myself and the
experience of my first eye exam sparked off an initial interest.” As a
result, Dr. Rah also realized that her undergraduate work in physics, along
with her desire to care for people, would compliment a career in optometry.
Dr. Rah’s specialty is in contact lenses. Likewise she is active in research,
in between seeing patients and teaching students from the New England College
of Optometry. One of her current research projects involves conducting a
study to assess self-perception in children, comparing those who wear
spectacles to those who wear contact lenses. Dr. Rah has also worked on a
study that involves having patients wear a special type of rigid contact lens
overnight to re-shape the front of the eye. This application gives
temporary daytime vision correction to near sighted people (for approximately
24 hours), and is ideal for contact lens wearers who experience discomfort in
different environments.
Beyond doing research, having papers published and giving lectures, Dr. Rah enjoys
the daily interaction she has with patients in the clinic. She is very
committed to helping people with their eye care needs.
On a personal side, Dr. Rah relaxes by participating in her hobbies such as sewing,
making quilts, golfing and watching football.
